hidden

alone, forgotten
but remembered once
what would seem a long long time ago

enticing you to see
what's seen everyday
by the hidden eyes of a foe

it scaled the wall
deep in the night
seeking what seemed lost

slithering down to the other side
on stomach plus all fours
a careful padding through the frost

the target would seem
but at an end
to the weary or without heart

but the seeker
of this once known treasure
plays a special part

coming and going
finding and taunting
but halting once it was there

its senses tingling
pinpricks of certainty
the knowledge of who and where

this simple treasure
encased in earth
sodden to the ground

its little life
helpless and uncertain
of when its time will come 'round

but our foe would seem
relentless
with knowledge beyond its years

secrets hidden within its soul
saving something so small
so devine into the depths of fears

in this templed forest
a shelter for the ancient and forgotten
where something young still grows....
